However, keep an eye out in the next few weeks - I should have a finished interview from an ex-international cricketer who was pretty candid.

Players are also a little hamstrung by their employers which is understandable, and because they don't have a lot of media training they simply pass over the question. Likewise, if I talked to the media in my day job I'd be lucky to keep it - at least they will have a bit of a chat - it's just unlikely it'll be with me.A cricketing Buddhahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04352955196214172264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2276323487629620529.post-11807251909717863912012-04-08T14:30:05.842+12:002012-04-08T14:30:05.842+12:00Great interview, now see if you can get such good ...Great interview, now see if you can get such good answers out of a current professional player.Alexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13756577987173700191noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2276323487629620529.post-76141926467993285322012-04-08T07:22:54.733+12:002012-04-08T07:22:54.733+12:00I'd love to do it but really don't know wh...I'd love to do it but really don't know who I'd speak to about that. I know the supporters' club does some stuff - more info than on the main site (which is a crying shame) but still very little. Only a couple of player pictures. But at least I know the names of the squad now, which is more than I can get from the main Surrey website.Rowanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10727475905818162472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2276323487629620529.post-59453076031732156152012-04-07T15:48:31.155+12:002012-04-07T15:48:31.155+12:00I felt it would have been a little rich to have as...I felt it would have been a little rich to have asked that question without giving you some credit. You know my thoughts on the #InternationalnotOther debate but given what I do in my real life I can see it from both sides.

In GD's defense, I didn't actually think he would answer the question on the basis that his employer may not appreciate it. As we have discussed before, you, like any number of other cricket fans, have every right to make a big deal of the debate and keep pushing it - I will do so when the opportunity arises.

I believe it would be a step in the right direction for cricinfo to be seen promoting the women's game by detailing the scores in their own section - time will tell.

As an aside, are we going to see some more writing and score details of the Surrey women's side on their website this year - it would be a great first step to see bios (even if on a generic template where veryone answered the same questions), photos and a players' blog (writtem by a number of players)detailing their season, similar to a captain's diary? How about pitching that idea to the Surrey bigwigs, Rowan? It would be great.A cricketing Buddhahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04352955196214172264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2276323487629620529.post-59111861553964879872012-04-07T09:08:17.631+12:002012-04-07T09:08:17.631+12:00Omigod omigod omigod I got mentioned in your inter...Omigod omigod omigod I got mentioned in your interview!! *aaaaaaaaaand breathe*

I do see George's point, and I appreciate everything he said about CricInfo being a business etc. I know women's cricket is never going to be as popular as men's. I'd also like to think that my support and views on the topic aren't lumped together with the racist nutters and similar. I'm passionate about this, but not psychotic. I do see myself as a feminist, but don't consider myself (or want to be seen as) the stereotypical ranty "how dare you hold a door open for me you sexist pig??!!" type.

However, I DO stand by my views that it's a bit of a catch-22 situation and that women's cricket needs a boost from a big site like CricInfo to bring it to people's attention. It's far harder for the everyday fan to disparage women's cricket as "not proper sport" (or all the other nonsense I illustrated in my screencaps) if a big legit company is backing it. And George, if you want me to donate a couple of hours a week to flying the flag for women's cricket on CricInfo then I will do it with a smile on my face and a song in my heart. #InternationalnotOther!Rowanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10727475905818162472noreply@blogger.com
